By Flight

The easiest and the most preferred way to reach Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Nepal is via a flight. Once you reach Nepal, you will have to book a flight to the Tibetan capital of Lhasa, also known as the City of Sunshine. It is a 607 kilometre-long flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa. There are daily direct flights from Kathmandu to Lhasa from Nepal's Tribhuvan International Airport. Airliners like Tibetan Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, and Air China, among others, offer daily flights to the Lhasa Gonggar International Airport.

Once you reach Lhasa, you will have to take another flight to Ngari, which is 1083 kilometres from the Tibetan capital. It is a direct flight path - a two-hour journey,and you will reach NgariGunsa Airport. There are daily flights to Ngari from Lhasa that departs at 7:30am.

After reaching Ngari, the path to Kailash Mansarovar is covered via road. It is around 248 kilometres. Thus, you will need a driver and a tour guide for the rest of your journey.

By Road

Another way to reach Kailash Mansarovar is via road. You can take an overland tour direct from Kathmandu to Kailash Mansarovar. The first phase of this road trip is to reach Gyirong Town (China), which is 172 kilometres from Kathmandu. Since the roads are not in the best condition, your travel can be quite slow. You can take a private car or a bus to travel in.

Once you reach Gyirong Town, you can spend the night there or an entire day to acclimate before the next phase of road travel, which is to Kailash Mansarovar at 667 kilometres. In general, this much distance can be covered in a single day as the roads are pretty good from thereon.

By Helicopter

If you are short on time, you can take a helicopter ride from Kathmandu to Kailash Mansarovar. First, you head 366 kilometres to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu. It is a 60-minute helicopter ride. Once you reach there, you will have to take another helicopter ride to Simikot, which is 208 kilometres from Nepalgunj. From there, you will have a 20-minute helicopter ride to Hilsa. Then you will have to walk a short distance and cross the bridge over the Karnali River in Tibet to reach Purang.

Purang to Kailash Mansarovar is 128 kilometres that you can cover with the help of a tour vehicle.
