India is the land where religiosity and spirituality celebrate at its best. Due to its rich mythological and religious roots, everyone since childhood is well read about the religious myths of India. As per religious scriptures, India is the land of gods and goddesses. Around 330 million gods are worshiped every day by someone or the other to seek the path of inner peace. To visit these sanctified sites, every year thousands of pilgrims plan pilgrimage tour. Taking Chardhamyatra along with the parents is believed to be the sacred one. Chardhamyatra comprises of four sacred sites for Hindus – Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. All these pious sites are located in the Himalayan foothills of Uttarakhand. Chardhamyatra uplifts the religious thoughts beliefs of the pilgrims.

 

After the Indo China war in 1962, the roadway was developed providing the route to the pilgrims. The holy shrines are well connected through roadways making it easier for the pilgrims to visit. It is a religious upliftment of the mortals after taking expeditions to these holy sites. The Human Mind is a convoluted one, sometimes it needs to be calm enough to control the desires. This Chardhamyatra is taken to renounce the materialistic attachment of the pilgrims. Through such pilgrimage tours, one can easily soothe the mind and soul. Religious sites are always thought of as the pathway to moksha. Similarly, elderly people believe to visit Chardham for attaining nirvana. To free the soul from the eternal cycle of life, one has to take this pilgrimage tour once in a lifetime. Mostly during the month of March and April, Chardhamyatra starts as the snow of the Himalayas starts melting down. These Chardham sites are located at the source four river bodies namely Alakananda (at Badrinath), Mandakini (at Kedarnath), Ganges (at Gangotri) and Yamuna (at Yamunotri). To reach Gangotri and BadrinathDhams, one can take the roadway via Haridwar, Rishikesh. For Yamunotri, one has to trek through the village of JankiChatti, around 230km away from Rishikesh and for Kedarnath, one has to trek from Gaurikund, located 210 km from Rishikesh.

 

Tour Itinerary


Day 1: Haridwar or Dehradun to Sitapur

 

Altitude: 1319m

Distance: 200kms (8hrs)

 

Our driver will pick you up from Haridwar or Dehradun. You will be driving via Rudraprayag to Sitapur. On the way, you will get the glance of the famous Mandakini River at Tilwara. It is the tributary of the river Alaknanda. It originates from Kedarnath from the glacier called Chorabari. It joins Alaknanda at the pious land of Rudraprayag. In the religious scriptures like SrimadBhagawatGeeta, this river is defined with transcendental values. One can attain heaven after taking bath in the holy water of Mandakini.

 

You will be driving along the banks of the river to reach Guptakashi. On the way, you will be visiting ArdhNarishwar temple. This temple is devoted to the idol formed of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati. From there you will be driving to Sitapur. At night you will stay in Sitapur.

Guptakashi

The other name of this place is called “Hidden Benaras”. In mythology, this place is described where Pandavas searched for Lord Shiva. The lord was dissatisfied with the acts of Pandavas and decided to flee away from them. Firstly, Shiva concealed at Guptakasi and later he appeared in front of Pandavas at Kedarnath. The priests of Kedarnath live in Guptakashi during the winters. During winters, the idol of Kedarnath is brought down to Ukhimath via the path of Guptkashi.

 

Day 2: Sitapur to Kedarnath and then back to Sitapur

Distance: 14km (1.5hrs)

 

Early in the morning, you will be driving to Helipad located at Guptakashi or Sersi. You will be flying to Kedarnath. It will take around 15minutes to reach the holy land of Kedarnath. After performing puja and other rituals, you will be coming back to Sitapur. At night you can either stay at Kedarnath or at Sitapur.

Kedarnath

This famous shrine is one of the 12 jyotirlingas devoted to Lord Shiva. This beautiful temple shrine is located against the mountainous backdrop of Kedarnath ranges. Lord Shiva is also known as Kedar. 

 

According to religious scriptures of SkandaPurana, it is the place where Shiva released the Ganges from his deadlocks to form the river Ganges. The etymological meaning of the place is “Lord of the field”. So it is meant for the Lord who actually takes care of the growth of the crops. This beautiful temple and the majestic view of Kedarnath will make your journey worthy. As per Mahabharata, Pandavas are quite disappointed with the bloodshed of Kauravas in Kurukshetra war. Therefore, the brothers felt guilty of the committed sins. To redeem such sins, they want to seek blessings of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva eluded them taking disguise of a bull in Kedarnath valley. After getting the sight of bull, Pandavas easily recognized it as Lord Shiva. Just to dive into the grounds, the other parts of Lord Shiva appeared at different parts. The arms appeared at the holy land of Tunganath, belly at MAdhmaheshwar, face at Rudranath, and deadlock at Kalpeshwar. So Kedarnath along with all these four shrines are known as Panchkedar.

 

Day 3: Sitapur to Badrinath

Distance: 180kms (8hrs)

 

So today after taking breakfast you will be visiting for Badrinathdarshan. After taking bath in the holy waters of Taptkund you will be going to visit Badrivishal. On this holy land, the pilgrims can also perform rituals dedicated to the ancestor’s souls. Brahma Kapal is famous for crematoria rituals. You can also go to other local sightseeing. Apart from the temple is built near the banks of Alaknanda. You will find out the beautiful statue made of shaligram stone of Lord Vishnu in padmasana posture inside the main sanctum. The pilgrims can also take bath in TaptKund before visiting the holy sanctum of Badrinath. As per religious scriptures, Badrinath is one of the four spiritual dhams mostly celebrated by the pilgrims all across the year for seeking the blessings of the lords. Located at a height of 3300m, it is guarded by mountains known as Nar and Narayan on two sides along with the lofty Neelkanth Peak. In this place, you will get the forests full of berries from where the name Badri Van came.

Places to visit

 

TaptKund

It is another hot spring located on the banks of river Alaknanda. On the way to Badrinath temple, one has to take bath in this hot spring to purify the soul before entering the sanctified space like Badrinath temple.

Mana Village

It is the last village that shares the borders of both India and Tibet. It is the land very famous for Indo Mongolian Tribe.

Vasundhara

It is the famous waterfall that is located around 5kms from the main temple complex of Badrinath. To reach this beautiful waterfall one has to trek from Mana Village. The water of the falls has medicinal values as the scientists proved it by experimenting on the water. Hindus use this water for religious purposes as well.

BhimPul

On the other side of Mana village, BhimPul is located. It is a huge piece of rock forming a natural bridge. This rock lies on the waters of Saraswati River. It is believed that Bhim, one of the Pandavas put this rock on the waters of Saraswati River to help Draupadi to cross the wide mouth of the river on their path to heaven. The pilgrims visit this place for its religious significance.

 

Day 4: Badrinath to Rudraprayag

 

Altitude: 895m

Distance: 160kms (5hrs)

 

After taking breakfast, you will be driving to Rudraprayag via Joshimath. On the way, you will be visiting Narshing temple. Lord Badrinath is brought down to Joshimath for worshipping during the winters. After visiting the temple you will be proceeding towards Rudraprayag.

Joshimath

It is a beautiful city located on the confluence of the rivers Dhauliganga and Alaknanda. AdiShankaracharya established four significant maths and it is one of the maths devoted to Lord Badrinath during the winter season. In winters, Lord Badrinath is brought down to Joshimath for worshipping purpose. Around the city, the pilgrims will find many cities. The most important shrine is the Narshing along with the idol of Lord Vishnu. With the time, the left hand of the deity is destroyed. It is believed among the locals the day when the arm withers completely, the place will cease to exist. The gods of the valley will return to Niti Valley located at BhavishyaBadri.

Rudraprayag

It is one of the fiver confluences of River Alaknanda. It is the confluence of river Mandakini and Alaknanda. The holy town of Kedarnath is located around 80 km away from Rudraprayag.

 

Day 5: Rudraprayag to Haridwar or Dehradun

 

Altitude: 315m

Distance: 160kms (5hrs)

 

After taking breakfast, you will be driving towards Haridwar. On the way, you will be visiting Rishikesh, DevPrayag, and Devi temple.

Rishikesh

This spiritual city will be an amazing opportunity for you to visit. Visiting this holy will remain incomplete without seeing Ram Jhula and LaxmanJhula. Both these are the suspended bridges on the river Ganges. Many religious ashrams, yoga centers, and temples are built across this river. Ram Jhula is comparatively bigger than the other bridge, LaxmanJhula. You will find rapids in this river, so many indulge in river rafting across the Ganges. After visiting this beautiful city of Uttarakhand, you will be driving back to Haridwar. Our driver will drop you at the station to board a homebound train as per your time schedule.
