Kailash Hill is the highest peak on which resides Shiva, the God of Gods. Lord Shiva is said to be the only one who resides on Earth. Where as other Devta’s reside in Swargalok (heaven), Brahma in Brahmalok, Vishnu in Vaikunthlok.
Mount Kailash is popularly called the backbone of a human. That is the spinal cord that has the 7 chakras of consciousness and the kundalini which is indicative of the evolution of a soul, where in the lower end is the material world of desires and passion. At its upper end is the home of Shiva.
This literally means is that Shiva is the one who is attainable by the mortal beings of this world. Virtually we understand that we cannot attain to Vishnu or Brahma while being alive. We cannot be in Swarg (heaven) while in the mortal world. These are the things of afterlife which you can earn for yourself and for your subsequent lifetimes. But Shiva is someone accessible and attainable on this Earth itself for anyone willing to travel to Kailash.
Now, that would have been all great if one had known what Kailash is. Visiting a mountain and trekking on it won't get you or anyone to Shiva, if at all you are thinking so.
Kailash Parvat is not a mountain made of rock and earth, but rather the peak of consciousness. Mount Kailash is actually what would better be called the backbone of a human. It is the spinal cord that has the 7 chakras of consciousness and the kundalini which is indicative of the evolution of a soul. At its lower end is the material world of desires and passion. At its upper end is the home of Shiva. Anyone who wishes to travel to Kailash needs to climb up the mountain from the base of the spine where Kundalini is coiled, to the top of the spine where the Sahasrara Chakra awakens. At the peak of that mountain is Shiva, who is pure consciousness. He is Nirgun (unbound to qualities), Nirakar (unbound to shape), Nirvikalpa (having no substitute), Turiya (dwelling in the fourth state of consciousness) and personifies the root syllable called Omkar.
The bottom of the mountain begins with a crematorium or Shamshaan from where the journey to Kailash begins. What it means is that the one who wishes to attain to Shiva needs to begin by leaving the material body or rather desires associated with it. A crematorium symbolizes burning of the body and with it the burning of all material desires.
The journey upwards of Kailash is the journey of your Kundalini upwards of the base of your spine. At the top end resides the Sahasrara Chakra which is described to resemble “1000 lotus petals”. At the end of that awakening is the consciousness that is immortal, dispassionate, simple, innocent, magnificent, powerful beyond comprehension, blissful beyond expectations and the source of all creation and destruction in the world. The consciousness which is known as Shiva.
Mount Kailash (also known as Mount Meru) is the most interesting mountain peaks in the whole Himalayan range. But what makes the Mt Kailash so unique from the others? Well, there are many things which make the peak one of the most mysterious places on the earth.
