Best time to visit: the best time to visit Muktinath and Damodar valley is in summer. Till mid August it is the ideal time for this pilgrimage tour. The landscape of upper Mustang is quite adverse. Due to such rugged landscape one has to make a proper research before visiting the place. It is suggested to avoid visiting this place during winter for its extreme weather conditions.

 

How to visit: There are many ways to visit Damodar valley and Muktinath temple. The best way is by flight for time management. One can also trek to these places via Lo Manthang. If you plan for trekking, then you will start focusing on your physical fitness. The rugged landscape will be a constant difficulty for you.

 

Clothing: due to high altitude, you will have to face unavoidable cold weather. Proper warm clothes should be there in your rucksack for this trip itinerary. Comfortable trekking shoes are also another item to look after for this trip.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

In the evening after brief interaction with fellow travel mates, you can visit the evening prayer in Pashupatinath temple. Lord Pashupatinath is the national deity of the country. The cool breeze of Bagmati River and the soothing sound of chiming of prayer bells will make your evening delightful. After such a tranquilizing experience, you will be coming back to the hotel.

 

Day 2: Fly or drive to Pokhara from Kathmandu

Today early in the morning you will be either flying or driving towards Pokhara. It is the tourism capital of Nepal. This mountainous country will remain as an appeasing landscape for your sight. This mountainous city is paradise for mountain lovers. The tourists are usually excited to visit Pokhara for its nature beauty. After checking into the hotel, you will go for boating on Phewa Lake. This lake is quite famous among the tourists for its serenity. The beautiful reflection of the surrounding mountains on the water of the lake will remain in your sight. While boating on this lake, you can also visit the beautiful Tal Barahi temple located in midst of the lake. It is one of the remarkable temple architecture present in Pokhara. The pagoda styled two storied temple is devoted to the goddess Ajima. In the inner sanctum of the temple you will find the boar manifestation of the goddess. It is believed to be an incarnation of Shakti. In Hindu mythology, Shakti is believed to be the ultimate source of the universal energy. The location of the temple will attract you the most to visit such architecture. At night you will stay in Pokhara.

 

Day 3: Early morning flight to Jomsom

Altitude: – Jomsom- 2743m; Muktinath Temple – 3710m

Distance: -158km (20 minutes flight) and then 1hr drive to Ranipauwa

Today you will be starting for your journey for Jomsom. Around 35 minutes you will take to reach this small mountainous village. Located at a height of 2743m in the district of Mustang, this village is the gateway to enter Muktinath temple. The village is developed on the fertile banks of Kali Gandaki. While flying to Pokhara, you will get a wonderful spectacle of the surrounding snow Cladded Mountains. A small chopper will be used for carrying the passengers. This small aircraft has the seating capacity of around 16 people. Therefore everyone gets an opportunity to sit on the window sit. Taking flight across the mountains, the tourists will get overwhelming view of the surrounding ambiance. Jomsom is a small village; you will be heading towards your hotel on foot. After checking into the hotel, you will be traveling to a nearby village called Ranipauwa. On your way you will find, numerous guest houses, restaurants, cafes, hotels for the pilgrims traveling to Muktinath. This routeway is equally used by the trekkers traveling towards Annapurna Circuit. After getting down in Ranipauwa, you will be walking for 15-20 minutes to reach Muktinath temple.

 

It is one of the notable pilgrimage sites for both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims in Nepal. As the name suggests, it is the mythical ground of liberation. Located at an elevation of 3710m, this famous pilgrimage site is considered as the place of liberation. According to the Vaishnava sect, this temple is one of 108 Divya Desham temples devoted to Lord Vishnu. It is also known as one of prominent Shakti Peethas, as the forehead of Sati fell on this part. Before entering the temple shrine, one takes bath in the 108 bull shaped water spouts located around the temple wall. The holy water of Kali Gandaki River is directed to these water spouts for the pilgrims to take bath. The spiritual practitioners believe that before stepping into such prestigious pilgrimage site, one has to be mentally and physically clean. The holy water of the Kali Gandaki River gushes out the impurities from the minds of pilgrims. Even the Buddhists consider this place religious due to Guru Rinpoche. It is believed that the spiritual leader meditated in this pristine premise of Muktinath temple while on his way to Tibet. Even today one can see how both the Buddhist and Hindu priests pay service to the temple in harmony. The Kali Gandaki River is quite famous among the pilgrims because one can collect Shaligram stones or Shila from the water of the river. This stone is known to be the physical manifestation of Lord Vishnu.

 

After visiting the temple shrine, you will be walking back till Ranipauwa. The vehicle will be waiting for you on the other side of the tail. Then you will be driving back to Jomsom. At night you will stay in Jomsom.

 

Day 4: Fly to Damodar Kunda

Time taken: -1hr flight from Pokhara each side

In the morning you will take an early flight to Damodar Kunda from Jomsom. This sacred lake is located at a height of 5400m. The Hindus believe in the path of salvation. In old religious scriptures, this lake is described as auspicious. Kail Gandaki river has its point of origination from this sacred lake. For the disciples of Lord Vishnu, this lake is a holy destination. Mostly the travelers draw a picture of Lord Vishnu in their minds as the god lying on the bed of cosmic snake called, Shesh Naga. The Damodar Kund is believed to be the cosmic head of lord, Muktinath as the auspicious mouth. The other locations like Shaligram Chakra, Ru Ru Kshetra, Devaghatam, Gajendra Moksha Devadham are defined as chest, waist, knee, and feet of Lord Vishnu respectively. While stepping on this beautiful place, you will get the pleasing figure of Lord Vishnu in mind. The philosophy of Vaishnavism is well appreciated worldwide and the devotees undertake this journey to encounter the elegance of spiritual power of the god. You can perform rituals on the banks of the lake. Many pilgrims travel to this holy site of Vishnu dham, to offer prayers for the deceased ancestors. A belief persist among the pilgrims that the soul gets salvation while entwined with the spiritual beauty of the lord. One must confront the complete manifestation of the god. You will be flying back to Pokhara.

 

Day 5: Pokhara sightseeing

Today you will be confronting the sunrise in the mountains. Early morning you will be driving to Sarangkot. The serenity of nature will bring an amazing experience for the tourists’ altogether. The mesmerizing sight of the first sun rays from the corners of the mountains will engrave in your mind. You will cherish the beauty of nature for lifelong. After enjoying such an amazing sight you will be coming back to Pokhara. After completing your breakfast, you will start your day tour around Pokhara. First, you will be visiting Bindebashini temple. Kaski rulers built this beautiful temple in the city. Inside the sanctum of the temple is devoted to Goddess Durga. After visiting the temple, you will be visiting the local marketplace. The old bazaar premise is quite famous for selling local handicraft items. Later you will be visiting Patale Chongo, cascading waterfalls known as Davis Falls among the tourists is one of the major locations to visit in Pokhara. You can enjoy the marvelous sight of gushing water of Davis Falls. During monsoons, the falls take more gigantic shape with wild water. Next, you will be visiting Gupteshwar Cave, located on the opposite side of Davis Fall. This cave will be surprising for you to explore its natural beauty. Day 6: Early morning flight to Kathmandu

In the morning you will be taking your flight back to Kathmandu. You can also drive back to the capital city according to your time schedule of your homebound flight. After taking rest in the hotel, you can go for temple visit like Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath and Budhanilkantha. Due to time crunch you will not get the chance in the beginning to visit these remarkable temple architectures. In the evening you can go for shopping at the local shops.
