Bhaktapur- city of attraction for tourist

Bhaktapur is also known with the name Bhadgaon and in Language Nepal it is known as Khwopa. The district in which this city is situated is known as Bhaktapur District and this city is ranked as third largest city of Kathmandu valley. Bhaktapur is also popularly known as city of devotees and is also one of the major tourist’s attractions. Lifestyle of this city takes tourist in medieval time, houses are made up o f red brick and roads are paved.

Durbar square in the city is one of the most famous, charming and extraordinary architecture. This is one of the best examples of art piece of an ancient Nepal. There are many interesting items in durbar square which makes it fascinating and charming like, the Lion Gate which has two statues of lions and there are two stone images along with it, one image is of Lord Shiva known as Bhairab and another is of Ugrachandi. Another item is The Golden Gate on which the figure of Garuda and Kali is surmounted. This gate is so fascinating and consider as the “loveliest art in the entire Kingdom”. The Place of fifty-five windows which was built by King Yaksha Malla and the same was remodeled by the King Bhupantindra Malla. The balcony that consist fifty five windows is considered as one of the unique piece of woodcarving. There is one Picture Gallery which contains paintings of ancient Buddhist and Hindu tantrism. This gallery is closed on Tuesday. The statue of King Bhupantindra Malla is one of most magnificent statue. The temple of Batsala Devi popularly known as Batsala Temple and is famous for “the bell of barking dogs” it is said that when the bell start ringing the dogs starts howling and barking in the vicinity, this bell rung every morning during the worship of goddess Taleju. Another attraction in Durbar Square is The Pashupati Temple.

Bhaktapur city is small city with large amount of water tanks within the city. Among all water tanks Siddha Pokahari is one of the largest water tanks in the city which help in supplying water to citizens and all people of Bhaktapur and the people enjoy boating and fishing in this tank occasionally.

There is one Five storied unique temple named Nyatapola which is also landmark for the city. Sculptures that are made of stones are flanked on the steps of the temple, the temple is also dedicated to goddess of tantric. Two statues of wrestlers that are known as Malla era wrestlers are located at the base of the temple which represents strength and power in ascending order.

Bhairavnath Temple is one of the three storied temple which consist of only head of Bhairav and dedicated to Kasi Bhairav. Earlier the temple was built by King Jagat Jyoti Malla then it was remodeled by the king Bhupatindra Malla who was the lover of arts. The temple was built in style of pagoda and it is just adjacent to Nyatapola Temple.

Thimi is the potter’s town which is situated near to Bhaktapur and in east of Kathmandu. Apart from farming, poetry is also one of the household works. The lifestyle of farmers is medieval by which tourist got attracted. The deity of goddess Balkumari is important here.
